Prescriptions are of two types. Precompounding and
extemporaneous. In precompounded prescription, drugs prescribed are supplied by the
pharmaceutical companies in ready prepared form by its nonproprietary or trade name.
e.g: Cap Rifampicin 150 mg (nonproprietary name)
or
Cap Firifam 150 mg (a trade name)
In extemporaneous prescription, the pharmacist prepares the medication according to the
drugs, doses and dosage form designed by the physician. Now a days we are not using this
method.
