Fluid Mechanics

Fluid mechanics is the study of how liquids and gases behave when at rest or in motion.

a. Fluid Statics

  • Describes fluids at rest, including the concepts of pressure, buoyancy, and Pascal’s principle.
  • Archimedes’ Principle: States that an object submerged in a fluid experiences an upward buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.

b. Fluid Dynamics

  • Describes the motion of fluids and includes principles like Bernoulli’s Principle and Navier-Stokes equations.
