Adding a cover photo

Your next step is to choose your cover photo. This is the large background photo appearing at the top of your timeline (refer to Figure 1-1) and the first thing people will see when landing on your brand’s page. Your cover photo is more than just a picture; it’s a representation of your brand. You have a wonderful opportunity to illustrate your brand, product, or service in any way you want — and you want to make a lasting impression. Many top brands, such as Ben & Jerry’s, Ford, and Coca-Cola, take great care in designing their cover photo.

 Before you get started, take time to research other brands on Facebook to see how they’re using their timelines. This may give you some good ideas.

To add a cover photo to your timeline, follow these steps:

1. Select the camera icon located on the bottom right of the image and click to change your cover photo.
2. In the pop-up menu that appears, choose whether you want to upload a new photo or a photo from an existing photo album.
   • Choose from Photos: If you want to use a photo that already resides in your page’s photo albums, choose this option.
   • Choose from Videos: If you want to use a video that already resides in your page’s video albums, choose this option. Videos must be between 20 and 90 seconds and the recommended size is 820 x 462 pixels.
   • Create Slideshow: If you want to use a series of five photos that already reside in your page’s photo albums, choose this option.
   • Upload Photo: If you want to upload an image from your computer, choose this option.
   After you choose a photo, you can reposition it by clicking the image and dragging it up or down.
3. Click Save Changes.

 Keep in mind that your timeline cover image doesn’t have to be permanent. You can change it as often as you see fit. Change with the seasons or to coincide with product launches.

To change your timeline cover image or profile photo, follow these steps:

1. Click Edit located on the bottom right of the photo.
2. Choose where you want to get your photo from.You have these choices:
   • Choose from Photos: If you want to use a photo that already resides in your page’s photo albums, choose this option.
   • Choose from Videos: If you want to use a video that already resides in your page’s video albums, choose this option. Videos must be between 20 and 90 seconds and the recommended size is 820 x 462 pixels.
   • Create Slideshow: If you want to use a series of five photos that already reside in your page’s photo albums, choose this option.
   • Upload Photo: If you want to upload an image from your computer, choose this option.
   • Reposition: This option is for a cover photo only. You can keep your current cover photo and simply reposition it by clicking and holding the cover photo, and then dragging it to its new position.
   • Remove: You can remove the cover or profile photo with this option. You don’t have to remove the current photo to change it. Instead, you can just choose one of the first two options.
3. Click Save Changes.
