In terms of their function, all walls are either load bearing or non load bearing walls. A load bearing wall is part of the structure of the building – it holds the building up. A non-load bearing wall is only a partition that divides the various rooms of a building.

Concrete walls are renowned for their strength and resilience. Poured concrete walls, in particular, provide a solid, continuous structure highly resistant to cracking, water damage, and environmental impacts.

Good quality walls provide strength and stability, weather resistance, fire resistance, thermal insulation and sound insulation. There are various ways to construct a wall and many different materials can be used, but they can be divided into four main groups.

Typically, the wall sections are constructed laid out on the subfloor, then raised, put in their proper locations, and nailed to the subfloor. Exterior walls are framed with 2×6 studs. Openings are left for doors and windows and framed with a “header”

Different types of walls in buildings Depending upon the purpose they serve, walls can be classified into two – load-bearing walls and partition (non-load bearing) walls. However, based on the functionality they serve, there are other types of walls like retaining walls, shear walls, parapet wall,s etc.
