Normally, following relationships are used with pressure and number of stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"ul-005\">\n<li>Single stage compression is used for delivery pressures up to 5.6 kgf\/cm<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two stage compressions are used for delivery pressures up to 5.6\u221235 kgf\/cm<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three stage compressions are used for delivery pressures up to 35\u221284 kgf\/cm<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"p01\"><em><strong>Advantages of Multistage Compression<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"ul-006\">\n<li>There is little chance of lubrication troubles due to lowering of maximum temperature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leakage loss is minimized.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is gain in volumetric efficiency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More uniform torque with small size of flywheel can be generated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"para-053\"><strong><em>Assumption in Multistage Compression:<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;The following assumptions are usually made in calculation of work done in multistage compression:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"ul-007\">\n<li>For each stage, pressures during suction and delivery remain constant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The index (<em>n<\/em>) in polytropic law is same in each stage of compression.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intercooling in each stage is done at constant pressure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Low pressure and high pressure cylinders handle the same mass of air.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is no interstage pressure drop, i.e., exhaust pressure of one stage equals the suction pressure of the next stage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Number of stages required depends on the pressure to be developed in compressor.
