The performance of a DC motor can be easily judged from its characteristic curves known as motor characteristics. The characteristics of a motor are those curves that show relation between the two quantities. On the basis of these quantities, the following characteristics can be obtained:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Speed and armature current, that is, N<\/em> \u2212 I<\/em><\/strong>a<\/sub> characteristics:<\/strong> It is the curve drawn between speed N<\/em> and armature current I<\/em>a<\/sub>. It is also known as speed characteristics.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Torque and armature current, that is, T<\/em> \u2212 I<\/em><\/strong>a<\/sub> characteristics:<\/strong> It is the curve drawn between torque developed in the armature T<\/em> and armature current I<\/em>a<\/sub>. It is also known as electrical characteristic.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
