Much of the current paradigm for quantum comput-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ing is motivated by classical computation theory, especially the circuit model<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for computation. In this chapter, we will brie\ufb02y overview the classical model<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of Boolean circuit theory, and also some of the theoretical concepts involved<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in classifying the computational complexity of problems. Roger Penrose [53]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>has a beautiful account of the history of the theory of computation.
