The system boundary may be real or imaginary, fixed or deformable.<br>There are three types of systems:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Isolated System<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 An isolated system cannot exchange energy and mass with its surroundings. The universe is considered an isolated system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Closed System<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Across the boundary of the closed system, the transfer of energy takes place but the transfer of mass doesn\u2019t take place. Refrigerator, compression of gas in the piston-cylinder assembly are examples of closed systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Open System<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 In an open system, the mass and energy both may be transferred between the system and surroundings. A steam turbine is an example of an open system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td colspan=\"4\"><strong>Interactions of thermodynamic systems<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Type of system<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Mass flow<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Work<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Heat<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Isolated System<\/td><td>\u2613<\/td><td>\u2613<\/td><td>\u2613<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Open System<\/td><td>\u2713<\/td><td>\u2713<\/td><td>\u2713<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Closed System<\/td><td>\u2613<\/td><td>\u2713<\/td><td>\u2713<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Surrounding<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything outside the system that has a direct influence on the behaviour of the system is known as a surrounding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thermodynamic Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A system undergoes a thermodynamic process when there is some energetic change within the system that is associated with changes in pressure, volume and internal energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four types of thermodynamic processes that have their unique properties, and they are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Adiabatic Process<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A process where no heat transfer into or out of the system occurs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Isochoric Process<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A process where no change in volume occurs and the system does no work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Isobaric Process<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A process in which no change in pressure occurs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Isothermal Process<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A process in which no change in temperature occurs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read More:<\/strong>\u00a0Thermodynamic Process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A thermodynamic cycle is a process or a combination of processes conducted such that the initial and final states of the system are the same. A thermodynamic cycle is also known as cyclic operation or cyclic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thermodynamic Equilibrium<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At a given state, all properties of a system have fixed values. Thus, if the value of even one property changes, the system\u2019s state changes to a different one.
