It is an essential biological process in many organisms. It is the means used by multicellular organisms to grow, replenish (repair), and reproduce. In unicellular organisms, cell division is equivalent to reproduction. There are two forms of cell division: (1)\u00a0<em><strong>direct cell division<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>and (2)\u00a0<em><strong>indirect cell division<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Direct cell division is one in which the\u00a0nucleus\u00a0and the\u00a0cytoplasm\u00a0of the cell divide directly into two parts. This form of cell division is also referred to as\u00a0<strong>amitosis.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In contrast, indirect cell division involves complicated changes within the cell, e.g. formation of chromosomes, before the parent cell divides and produces daughter cells.\u00a0<strong>Mitosis<\/strong>\u00a0is a cell division that involves an indirect method of producing daughter cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cell division is commonly used interchangeably with mitosis, a process comprised of karyokinesis and\u00a0cytokinesis\u00a0resulting in two genetically identical cells. Nevertheless, cell division is not exclusive to mitosis; it is also happening in\u00a0meiosis, which, in comparison, is a process giving rise to cells with non-identical genetic material. Thus, cell division is a biological process involved in the\u00a0growth\u00a0and reproduction of various organisms.
